Privacy policy

Last updated: May 20, 2026. This is a working draft pending legal review for CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, and TCPA compliance.

OwnAdu (“we,” “us,” “our”) operates this website and educational service. This policy describes the information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

  • Information you provide. Email address, name, ZIP code, state, city, project details (budget, timeline, ADU type), and calculator inputs you submit through our forms.
  • Automatically collected. IP address, browser type, device information, approximate location (city / region from IP), referring URL, pages visited, and (with consent) session recordings via Microsoft Clarity. Specific analytics tools and the cookies they set are listed under Cookies and tracking below.
  • From third parties. Public licensing records, business listings, and Google review data for builders in our directory.

How we use information

  • To provide the educational content and tools on our site.
  • To match qualified homeowners with vetted ADU builders.
  • To send our newsletter and project-specific guidance.
  • To improve our content, tools, and matching algorithms.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

How we share information

When you submit a lead-capture form, you authorize us to share your contact information and project details with up to three vetted builders who serve your area and ADU type. We never sell your data to non-builder third parties. We may also share information with:

  • Service providers (Supabase, Resend, Plausible, Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, Vercel).
  • Affiliates and partners who help us operate the service.
  • Law enforcement when required by valid legal process.

Your choices

  • Unsubscribe from any email by clicking the unsubscribe link or emailing hello@ownadu.com.
  • Request access, correction, or deletion of your personal data by emailing the same address.
  • California residents: you have additional rights under the CCPA and CPRA including the right to know, delete, and opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. Because we use Google Analytics, certain interactions with this site qualify as "sharing" under CPRA. To exercise your opt-out, email hello@ownadu.com with the subject line "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" and the email address or device identifier you want excluded. We will honor Global Privacy Control signals from your browser automatically.

TCPA disclosure (lead forms)

By submitting a contact or lead-capture form, you consent to receive calls, text messages, and emails from OwnAdu and up to three matched builders regarding your ADU project. Consent is not a condition of any purchase. Standard message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out of text messages at any time.

Cookies and tracking

We use three analytics tools, each with a different privacy posture. The summary:

  • Plausible Analytics. Cookieless and does not collect personal data. Loads on every visit. Plausible aggregates page views and referrers in the EU and does not transmit individually identifiable data.
  • Google Analytics 4 (gtag.js). Loads on every visit. GA4 sets first-party cookies named _ga and _ga_<property_id> that persist on your device for up to two years (Google default). GA collects page views and events you trigger on the site, technical details about your browser and device, referral source, and approximate location derived from your IP address. Our GA4 property has IP anonymization enabled and a 14-month data retention setting. Google may use this data per its privacy policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all sites by installing the official Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by clearing the _ga cookies in your browser settings.
  • Microsoft Clarity. Records anonymized session interactions (mouse movement, scrolling, clicks) for usability research. Clarity loads only after you grant analytics consent in our banner, and we honor Global Privacy Control automatically. You can revoke consent at any time by clearing the consent cookie in your browser or contacting us.

Children

Our service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced via email to subscribed users.
